Air Canada pilots are asking for a pay rise ahead of upcoming contract talks, after US carrier Delta Air Lines secured a 34% pay increase for its pilots, putting pressure on other airlines to follow suit. The pay rise has led to Air Canada pilots calling for similar increases before their contracts are due to be renewed. Currently, Delta’s hourly pay rates are up to 45% higher than current Air Canada hourly pay rates. Many North American carriers are also currently recruiting pilots to meet demand after the pandemic-induced slump, with Sunwing Airlines pilots in Canada securing a 23% pay rise earlier this year.
