Air India has consolidated the reservation system and customer interface of its two low-cost subsidiary airlines, Air India Express and AirAsia India. Passengers will now be able to make and manage bookings, and check into domestic and international flights, on a single website. The move follows AirAsia India’s full acquisition in November 2020 and the merging of both airlines under a single CEO in January 2021. Further integration of internal systems is planned, including regulatory permits. Tata Sons’ consolidation of its airline entities, which include Vistara, AirAsia India and Air India Express under Air India, aims to make Air India the second largest airline in India in terms of fleet and market share. Last month, Vistara and Air India began their consolidation process after Singapore Airlines and Tata Group announced their intention to merge Air India and Vistara.
