Companies are facing a “dramatic downturn” in their environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) reputations, according to a report by BOLDT and Mettle Capital. The report analysed 1,080 companies, including 20 of the top European performers in 2021, and found that 600 of them had experienced a decrease in their ESG sentiment ratings in 2022. ESG reputations in the infrastructure, tech, financial services and transportation sectors all fell, whereas those in food and beverage and healthcare increased. Factors affecting reputations included business ethics, human rights, community relations, and product safety and quality.
