On a recent IndiGo flight between Delhi and Mumbai, an unsuspecting passenger was about to tuck into a snack she brought onboard when a crawly critter appeared. The passenger claimed that a worm was in her sandwich. The dietician quickly took to Instagram to shame the airline, noting the food continues to deteriorate. IndiGo has since apologized for the incident.
Kushboo Arora Gupta, who has over 235,000 followers on her Instagram, vowed to make a complaint to the Food Safety & Standards Authority of India, highlighting that even after advising cabin crew of the worm, they continued to serve passengers.
Gupta has pushed to find out why the flight attendants continued serving food on the flight and queried the crew’s training in handling these situations. The incident occurred on 6E 6107, between Delhi and Mumbai, on Friday, December 29.
IndiGo responds
The carrier was quick to act on the claims, looking to protect its reputation, with the airline releasing this statement on Saturday:
“Upon investigation, our crew had immediately ceased the service of the specific sandwich in question. The matter is currently under thorough examination, and we are working closely with our caterer to ensure appropriate corrective measures are taken. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused to the passenger.”

Gupta made it clear that she was not looking for compensation but to protect other passengers’ health, and that travelers’ wellbeing should be the top priority. While the travelers claimed that the crew continued to serve the compromised food, IndiGo’s preliminary investigation did note that the crew ceased serving the vegetarian sandwiches onboard. The carrier continues to work closely with its catering partner to find out how the worm made its way onto the aircraft.

The quick hop was facilitated by IndiGo’s Airbus A321-251NX, holding the registration VT-ICN (serial number 11463). According to Airfleets, the aircraft is just three months old and took its first test flight under German registration D-AXXM on September 11th this year.
