Flight (6E 1817) departed from Kuala Lumpur at 12.30pm (local time) and arrived at the Trichy airport at 2.05pm (IST) with 102 passengers.
In return, flight (6E 1816) departed at Trichy airport at 3.05pm (IST) with 178 passengers, against the total seat capacity of 180, and reached Kuala Lumpur at 9.20pm (local time).
As of now, Air Asia and Malindo Air are operating daily services between Kuala Lumpur and Trichy. With the new services, the total will touch 21 per week.
Meanwhile, both Air Asia and Malindo Air are contemplating an increase in frequency in the coming months, sources said.
Malindo Air, which is operating seven services per week is going to enhance it as a daily two services from June 1. Similarly, Air Asia which is now operating seven services per week is also going to increase its frequency to 14 per week from June 1. IndiGo Air also has a plan to increase its frequency from seven per week to 14 services from September 2, sources said.
Though airlines are coming forward to operate more flights, travel agents expressed fear that it may not attract more passengers due to fares. Travel agents also said that normalcy will be fully restored from November this year.
