The government’s travel list is set to update for one final time before the traffic light system is replaced by a new approach.
The Express reported earlier this month that the traffic light system could become a thing of the past, as a two-tier system, which would merge the green and amber lists, is expected to be brought in.
Under the new system, quarantine rules for red list countries would remain in place.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid stated this week that an announcement on a new system is expected before October 1 – the formal review point for the existing traffic light approach.
Mr Javid also hinted that day two PCR tests for double-jabbed travellers returning from abroad will soon be dropped.

He told the Commons on Tuesday (September 14): “We are planning to make some changes around the travel regime and my right honourable friend the transport secretary [Grant Shapps] will come to the house as soon as he’s ready.”
It is therefore likely the upcoming review will be the last in its current form, reports MyLondon.
At present, a range of factors are considered to decide how to classify each destination, which include infection rates, the presence of any variants of concern, the number of people who have been vaccinated, and the country’s access to reliable scientific data and genomic sequencing.
