Kenya Airways, the national airline of Kenya, has reported its worst-ever financial results with losses of $290m for the year ending December 2022. This marks the airline’s tenth consecutive year in the red, despite previous government bailouts. High fuel costs and a weakening Kenyan shilling were blamed for the losses, although revenue increased by 66% to just below pre-pandemic levels. Passenger traffic rose by 68%, still below 2019 levels, and the airline’s cargo business rose by 3.5%. Kenya Airways last posted a profit in 2012.
