Korean Air has received approval from the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) for its business combination with Asiana Airlines. The CMA notified the airline that the proposed remedies submitted by Korean Air had resolved concerns about competition restriction. This remediation effort also involved entering into a cooperative partnership with Virgin Atlantic on the London Heathrow-Seoul Incheon route. However, the airline now awaits business competition approvals from the EU, Japan, and the US. Korean Air has reported its business combination to a total of 14 competition authorities, with 11 countries, including the UK, either approving the combination or concluding that it was not subject to review or report. The airline will continue to cooperate with all authorities to receive approvals as quickly as possible.
