Wizz Air CEO Jozsef Varadi has said that the airline plans to connect India with the European Union via non-stop flights using its Airbus A321XLR aircraft. Speaking to Aviation Daily, Varadi said that the most obvious plan would be to begin flights to India from Budapest, which lies halfway between the EU and India. While the Budapest hub will be the main European gateway for the airline, other cities including Warsaw, Bucharest and Sofia are also being considered. The A321XLR, which is due to enter service in 2023, has a range of 4.7 million miles and is tipped to offer a significant range boost to airlines enabling them to connect smaller cities directly.
