Wizz Air, the Hungarian budget carrier, has announced a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) partnership with Spanish oil and gas company Cepsa. From 2025, the airline will purchase SAF produced from organic waste, including used cooking oil or agricultural waste, to power flights across Spain. The partnership follows a successful trial at Seville Airport in November 2022, which saw a supply of SAF at scale and powering around 220 flights in one week. Wizz Air’s sustainability goal is to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, and it achieved its lowest annual carbon intensity in 2022, 15% lower than the previous year. The airline operates flights from Europe to various airports in Spain.
