Wizz Air has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Spanish energy company Cepsa for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to be supplied from 2025. The MoU enables the opportunity for Wizz Air to buy SAF from Cepsa to fuel flights across Spain. Cepsa has been running tests on SAF with a resulting 220 flights from Seville Airport using SAF produced at its La Rabida Energy Park in Huelva, marking the first supply of sustainable fuel to an airport in southern Europe. The fuel is produced using organic waste, reducing lifecycle emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional kerosene. Cepsa’s Positive Motion strategic plan aims to develop an ecosystem to decarbonise its client base and its air/maritime transport operations.
