Wizz Air has won a tender by the Macedonian government to introduce flights from the Macedonian capital, Skopje, to Ljubljana, Stuttgart, Salzburg, and Luxembourg. The flights will be subsidized by the government over the next three years, and the budget carrier will be obligated to maintain flights on these routes for another three years once the subsidy program expires. Lufthansa, which was the only other airline to participate in the tender, will receive financial support for its previously announced ten weekly service between Frankfurt and Skopje. The Macedonian Minister for Transport and Communications expressed satisfaction with the addition of new destinations from Skopje Airport, which currently offers 41 scheduled routes.
