Norway Facilitates National COVID-19 Measures, but Not Entry Restrictions –

The Norwegian authorities have announced that the country will ease some of its national restrictions starting from tomorrow, January 15.

The decision to ease the rules applied on the national level comes as the infection cases are less serious now, reports.

Taking into account that fewer people are being hospitalized despite the increase in the number of infections as well as the high vaccination rates, the Norwegian authorities think that it’s about time to start relaxing measures gradually.

“We are now in a new phase of the pandemic. We know that Omicron causes less serious illness and that the probability of being admitted to hospital is reduced,” Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said, supporting the easing of measures.

Under the new rules, kindergarten and primary schools will no longer limit the number of children within the same space. Moreover, children and youngsters can now carry out outdoor activities without being subject to any limitations.

Adults can also exercise outdoors as usual as well as be in contact with others if necessary.

Additionally, it has been revealed that in line with the new rules, adults will be able to stay out in restaurants and other drinking places until 11 pm, and the quarantine rules will be eased.

“At the same time, we are easing the quarantine rules and asking the municipalities to prioritize the resources where the spread of infection is greatest,” Støre added.

This means that the responsible authorities of each municipality will be able to decide on new rules and tighten the current ones if necessary.

Regarding the entry of foreign nationals and returning travellers, the authorities have announced that everyone will still continue to be subject to entry rules.

All those who enter Norway must register their entry into the country prior to their trip. In addition, everyone is required to undergo testing upon their arrival in Norway.
