The flight from Miami to London by American Airlines was forced to turn around on Wednesday night after the couple refused to wear the mask.
Flight 38 returned to Miami International Airport about an hour and a half after the flight to Heathrow Airport began.
Publicly, American Airlines simply says the flight has returned “… for a destructive customer who refused to comply with federal mask requirements.”
One source told CBS 4 News that the couple was suspected of being drunk, which is not a surprise to CBS travel editor Peter Greenberg.
“Unless we count the number of people who are already drunk, many of these cases are due to the consumption of alcohol before boarding the plane,” Greenberg said.
According to CBS4 sources, one of the couples had the problem.
The decision was made not to continue the flight because it was confusing and did not want to fly with non-obedient passengers for another 7 hours.
Police dispatch demanded that police officers meet the plane at Gate D14. When the plane landed, it was informed that more than 100 passengers had to get off the plane.
One passenger said, “I was told that I had to go home without any instructions, but I couldn’t pick up my luggage.”
Many of the planes had no idea why it returned to Miami.
“I’m sorry. I think they didn’t really say anything and didn’t say anything to the flight attendants because they said there was an extreme incident and they had to look back.” The passenger said.
“They just told us to get off and the police were there,” another passenger said.
American Airlines apologizes for any inconvenience.
“American Airlines flight 38, which serves from Miami (MIA) to London (LHR), returned to MIA because a destructive customer refused to comply with federal mask requirements. The executive agency landed on MIA where we met the aircraft. We thank the crew for their professionalism and apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers. “
