Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky has compared the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) to the time he arrived in Silicon Valley in 2007/2008 – when the last recession began and the internet was going international. Speaking on The Verge’s Decoder podcast, Chesky said that AI had the potential to be as significant as the Industrial Revolution and that businesses needed to be careful during the impending revolution. Chesky also talked about the importance of tuning the models of AI and how Airbnb would not be involved in building the base models as they were not involved in infrastructure. Chesky acknowledged that the startup ecosystem is shaky, and interest rates are high. Airbnb predicted a decrease in bookings and average daily rates for the second quarter compared to the previous year.
