A homemade motorcycle built by a Modesto mechanic, Fred C. Atwood, in the 1940s now hangs on a 9-foot ledge inside an Airbnb guesthouse rental near Coyote Pass. The motorcycle consists of various parts, including a 1945 Harley-Davidson engine, which suggests that Atwood built it by that year or shortly after. He established an auto body shop in downtown Modesto with his brother in 1946, where they made several components for the motorcycle. The motorcycle was handed down to a buyer’s family before John Juntunen’s son, Jared, bought it in 2013. The Juntunens installed a winch to hoist the 370-pound motorcycle to the ledge in 2019, where it has become a conversation starter among guests.
