Recent data revealed that 150 foster children in Idaho stayed in Airbnb or short-term rentals in 2022, a significant increase from the 16 children who stayed in such accommodations the year before. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW) reported a decrease in available services to support children and parents, and the department started struggling to find placements for children in October 2021. IDHW is currently recruiting foster families, particularly those who are willing to care for teenagers or children with challenging behaviors or physical needs. People who are interested in becoming foster parents can call 211 for more information.
