Airways International Cymru was a Welsh airline founded in 1983 by Red Dragon Travel, a Welsh holiday company. The airline started with a single BAC One-Eleven before expanding to four Boeing 737s. However, a legal dispute over a lease agreement forced the airline to declare bankruptcy in 1988. Airways International Cymru focused on serving smaller tour companies in the booming British package holiday business during the 1980s, but its financial difficulties caused its short-lived demise. The airline’s legacy remains as one of the few carriers to feature the red dragon emblem, the national emblem of Wales.
