Even as cancellations begin, tourism industry cautiously optimistic | Goa News – Times of India

Panaji: Even as hotels did roaring business in the run-up to the New Year, the sharply-spiking Covid cases over the past few days have put brakes on the industry. While hotels are seeing cancellation of bookings, some weddings scheduled for this month and next have also been called off. The tourism industry is expecting a reduction of up to 25%, in business.
The general manager of Zuri White Sands Goa resort and casino, Rajendra Menon, told TOI that they have have seen around 20% cancellations so far. “Two weddings that were to happen this week have been cancelled and three fixed in February. There has been a bit of panic and anxiety with cases soaring. We have 20% cancellations of room bookings.”
Francis Serrao, managing director of the popular wedding company Crosscraft, said that a few weddings have been called off after either a family member or members of the couple tested positive. He said that since the government has been considerate, and no harsh restrictions have been…
