South African Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille has said the country’s tourism industry has made “great strides” in recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, with tourism numbers for the first full year following the outbreak up 152% on the previous year. Speaking at the launch of May’s Africa Travel Indaba, de Lille highlighted the need for “collaboration and partnerships” to help the industry grow, and called for “seamless” travel for trade and leisure purposes. The travel and tourism industry was one of the hardest-hit by the pandemic, leading to many job losses and business failures in Africa and elsewhere.
