The importance of engaging local communities in the sustainable development of natural, cultural, and social resources has been recognized globally. Involving community-based organizations and leadership in policy and project implementation is the essence of the bottom-up approach for sustainable development. Additionally, the empirical knowledge that local communities possess from generations of evolution and change of nature and culture is invaluable for any society. However, the depletion of this knowledge due to the advancement of science and technology, cultural aggression, and hedonism is a concern. The lack of knowledge, absence of surveys and studies, dearth of data, and shortage of budgetary allocations hinder the development of community-based tourism (CBT) in Bangladesh. CBT aims to engage local communities in all steps of tourism development, from project formulation to monitoring and owning by the local community. Community engagement in the tourism industry is now a pre-dominant issue in the tourism development agenda and policy of any country. CBT can play a crucial role in the sustainable development of Bangladesh tourism, but proper training for local communities, budgetary allocations, and community-based organizations and leadership must be developed for sustainable community tourism development.
