Just saying ‘Tahiti’ conjures up an image of
crystal clear water, the sound of waves lapping gently on an
idyllic beach, the hint of suntan lotion, barbecue chicken or
fish, and perhaps even a little lime or coconut juice carried on
a gentle breeze.
For beach lovers, Tahiti has long been one of the
world’s most exclusive and popular island hot spots. Luxurious
hotels in Bora Bora can charge room rates that are almost as
breathtaking as the natural beauty that attracts guests to fly
there
from all over the world.
With such high demand, average hotel RevPAR at
select properties exceeding US1,500 per night and a country-wide
RevPAR of about US$ 600 per night, you’d think that hotel
companies would be fighting to build hotels there, that the
national carrier, Air Tahiti, would be one of the most successful
in the world, but is that really the case?

To learn more about Air Tahiti Nui’s operations,
how Tahiti’s post-Covid recovery is progressing, passenger and
visitor arrival numbers, and targets for 2024, Steven Howard of
Travel News Asia sat down with the airline’s Chairman and CEO,
Michel Monvoisin.
In this interview, filmed at the APG World Connect
2023 conference in Monaco on 2 November, Michel gives us some very
candid insights into the country, the airline’s business, and some
of the surprising challenges that Team Tahiti faces.
Michel tells us about the airline’s plans moving
forward, which routes he would like to launch and what impact
other airlines have on the business.
We also discuss tourism numbers in
general, whether there are sufficient hotels in the country to
meet demand and what needs to be done to attract more hotel
investment. All that and much, much more in the exclusive HD video
and podcast below.
