China Eastern Airlines has restarted flights from Shanghai to Cambodia’s Siem Reap, a popular tourist destination known for the ancient Angkor Wat temples. Some 132 Chinese tourists arrived on the inaugural flight on Friday and were welcomed by Cambodian tourism officials, local authorities and travel operators. The secretary of state at Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism said China Eastern will operate direct flights between Shanghai and Siem Reap on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday each week. Before the pandemic, China was Cambodia’s largest source of foreign tourists, accounting for 35.7% of total tourist arrivals in 2019 and generating about $1.8bn in revenue.
