Four men convicted of carrying out serial blasts in Jaipur in 2008 have been acquitted by a Rajasthan court due to lack of evidence. The court also criticised the “incompetence” of the investigating officers and ordered action. A fifth man had been acquitted earlier, and the court upheld his acquittal. Nine bombs exploded in eight locations in Jaipur’s old city, killing 71 people and injuring over 180 others. The Indian Mujahideen, a little-known outfit at the time, had claimed responsibility for the attack. The blasts were carried out to derail Jaipur’s tourism industry and as a warning against India supporting the US on international issues.
