The province of Luang Prabang in Laos aims to increase the number of visitors to the area from 500,000 to 700,000 between 2018 and 2020, according to the Office of the Provincial Tourism. Luang Prabang is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the most frequently visited location in the country due to its international airport, internet facilities, transport and accommodation options, and numerous tourist sites, including 228 planned tourist sites of which 111 are currently open to the public, and 76 hotels and resorts. 40% of visitors are from Thailand, followed by China. The province is focusing on human resource development and improving its infrastructure and facilities to ensure visitors continue to increase, with a view to making Luang Prabang the starting point from which to explore Laos.
