The Fire Station in Doha, Qatar is holding their first-ever Garangao night on April 4th, featuring activities such as painting on tote bags, distributing sweets, henna, and more for people of all ages. Garangao is a Ramadan event where children knock on doors to receive goodies from neighbours. It is a distinctively Gulf custom that is most prominent in Qatar, occurring midway through Ramadan to celebrate children as they attempted to fast. The Fire Station is also currently accepting applications for their Artist in Residence 8 program, which provides networking opportunities, mentorship, collaboration with curators and visiting critics, open studios, and access to the building’s amenities including the woodshop and fabrication lab, to Qatari artists and artists residing in Qatar who are 21 or older with a valid Qatari ID. The program runs from September 15 to June 15, 2024 for nine months, and the submission deadline is April 15.
