Ugandan coffee has gained significant popularity in the Turkish market, with exports increasing by over 2,600 tonnes in the past five years. Data from the Uganda Coffee Development Authority showed a rise in exports from roughly 2000 bags (120 tonnes) in 2019 to 44,000 bags (2,640 tonnes) in 2024. Currently, one kilogram of dry coffee in Uganda costs about Shs6,000, meaning the country’s coffee exports to Turkey now cost about Shs15.8 billion. This growth is due to the high demand and appreciation for Ugandan coffee in Turkey according to Julius Mwijutsya, the counselor-in-charge of Economic and Commercial Diplomacy at the Ugandan Embassy in Ankara.
