Aussies stranded in the UK may face a new challenge after the country announced a ban on direct flights from the United Arab Emirates over fears of the spread of the South African virus variant.
The Australian High Commission is looking into what this might mean for Australians wishing to fly home on UAE-based airlines such as Emirates and Etihad, the ABC reports.
There is uncertainty over whether the UK’s ban on flights from ports like Dubai and Abu Dhabi means there will be a shortage of planes in the UK to fly Australians out.
News.com.au has contacted Emirates and Etihad about any disruption to their services to Australia.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has also been contacted for comment.
