The boss of Virgin Atlantic has claimed there is no justification for costly travel testing for the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
Chief executive Shai Weiss echoed calls from the travel industry to remove all testing requirements for international travellers.
Manchester Airports Group (MAG) and Airlines UK said research they commissioned into travel restrictions found domestic, not international, restrictions would be the only way to reduce the spread of Omicron.
Pre-departure and day two PCR testing were reintroduced in late November and early December in response to the spread of Omicron. But Mr Weiss said research has shown testing has done little to prevent the spread of Omicron and called on the rules to change when travel restrictions are expected to be reviewed today (Wednesday).
