The public was not told of Aotearoa’s first monkeypox case for more than a day after officials knew about it, largely linked to sensitivities about what information was released.
The Ministry of Health reported the first MPX case on July 9 – but documents obtained under the Official Information Act show officials were aware of the-then probable case at least 27 hours earlier.
There have been more than 61,000 cases of MPX across 105 countries to date, including nine in Aotearoa.
