Google for Startups is inviting Black-led tech startups to apply for this year’s Black Founders Fund worth $4m across Europe and Africa. The fund aims to tackle the stark inequality in venture capital (VC) funding faced by Black-led startups, given that before its launch in 2021, just 0.25% of VC funding went to these businesses. Startups have until 26 March to apply, and successful firms will receive equity-free funding, mentorship, cloud credits, support, and 1:1 mentoring by industry experts. The Black Founders Fund has so far invested $3.95m in 46 UK-based startups across a range of sectors including finance, fashion, healthcare, energy, education and fitness.
