Major Canning Bridge upgrade gets $25 million boost

There’s been a New Year boost to the improvement plans for Canning Bridge bus interchange above the rail station.

The Federal Government’s mid-year economic financial outlook announcement included an extra $25 million for a new pedestrian access bridge to the station.

The proposed bridge would run above the freeway from Davilak Street in Como to walkways on the river side, allowing locals to access the train without using the traffic bridge.

Plans to improve the bus interchange area include moving the bus stops off the roadway and onto an elevated platform above the freeway and the train station.

This will replace the plans that was going to see it put on parkland near the river and improve traffic flow across Canning Bridge.

The $25 million will also pay for traffic signals where northbound traffic enters the freeway.
