A target has been set for the Queenstown Lakes district to have its tourism industry carbon zero by 2030.
Mayor Glyn Lewers made the announcement yesterday with a revised regenerative tourism strategy for the district labelled “Travel to a thriving future”.
The goal of carbon zero is defined to include aviation, both flights into and out of the district, and transport within the district. It is also committed to removing carbon and not using offsetting as a solution.
Mr Lewers said he was excited about the ambitious goal and the support and enthusiasm from the wider community.
