While British tourists abroad are lamenting the effects of the tumbling pound, our battered currency has made the UK a prime destination for US holidaymakers.
Sterling plummeted to an all-time low against the dollar as the financial markets went into meltdown after Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng announced massive tax cuts last Friday. It recovered briefly this morning but promptly dropped again and is expected to stay weak for months, generating despair here but delight for US visitors.
The chief of Britain’s national tourism agency said that while the struggling pound would draw greater numbers of US visitors here in the coming months, a weak currency would ultimately prove a drawback for the tourism industry.
