Italy plans to roll out vaccine passports to all state workers after they were successfully introduced for teachers this week, despite opposition from hard-right leaders.
As schools reopened on Monday after long periods of home schooling before the summer break, teachers were required to show proof of vaccination, having had Covid or having tested negative in the past 48 hours.
Long-distance train passengers, theatre and cinema goers, university students and indoor diners at restaurants are already required to show the passport, which can be downloaded as a QR code on a phone.
