Transport Minister, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga has congratulated the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) for its Cape Town International Airport recognition as the fifth most on-time airport globally and the FlySafair for winning the best performing on-time low-cost airline respectively at the Cirium’s 2023 On-Time Performance Review.
The two companies have achieved such a feat on the backdrop of the global travel industry recovering from the devastating impact of Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic brought with it various challenges to the aviation sector, among others a surging demand, increased passengers, intense competition, and growing operational costs.
The Cirium’s 2023 On-Time Performance Review evaluated airlines and airports that handled these challenges most efficiently. When it came to the airport performance, Cape Town International Airport registered an on-time departure rate of 86% out of a total of 86 267 flights.
When it came to Airlines FlySafair recorded an outstanding on-time arrival performance rate of 92, 36% out of a total of 55 444 flights.
These achievements are not only a testament to the unwavering dedication and hard work of the teams at Cape Town International Airport and FlySafair but also reflect the overall efficiency and commitment to excellence within the South African aviation sector.
ACSA’s continued benchmarking of its operations against the best international models has once again yielded positive results, while FlySafair’s recognition as the most on-time low-cost carrier in the world is a significant achievement for the airline and the South African aviation sector.
Chikunga has hailed these achievements as a testament of diligent work and commitment to service delivery by both companies. She also expressed her Department’s commitment to support the aviation sector and work collaboratively to continue achieving such prestigious accolades.
