WASHINGTON (TND) — An Air Canada passenger caused a lengthy delay Monday after they reportedly boarded a plane and decided to open a cabin door before the flight took off.
The passenger, who was not identified, “boarded the aircraft normally” at Toronto Pearson International Airport but then opened a cabin door instead of going to their seat while the plane was at the gate, Air Canada confirmed to Global News.
The passenger received injuries falling to the tarmac and emergency services were called in.
According to the airline, there were 319 passengers scheduled to fly and flight AC056 ended up departing nearly six hours later.
“We can confirm all of our approved boarding and cabin operating procedures were followed,” Air Canada said in a statement.
Peel Regional Police confirmed to Global News that the person “was in a state of crisis” when the incident happened and “suffered relatively minor injuries from falling onto the tarmac.”
Air Canada is continuing to investigate.
