An Air Canada passenger was rushed to hospital after opening a door and falling out of the aircraft during boarding at Pearson International Airport Monday evening, resulting in a lengthy delay.
The incident took place on flight AC056 from Toronto to Dubai, a spokesperson for Air Canada told the Star, which was scheduled to depart at 9:35 p.m.
The passenger had boarded the Boeing 777 normally, they said, but instead of proceeding to their seat, the passenger “opened a cabin door on the opposite side of the aircraft” and proceeded to fall out of it.
After hitting the tarmac, a spokesperson for Peel paramedic services said they were transported in “non-life-threatening condition to a local trauma centre.”
The plane, scheduled to carry 319 passengers, was delayed for nearly six hours, according to the airline’s online flight tracker.
