International carrier, American Airlines, will be adding an additional daily flight to its Guyana route from June of this year.
The airline currently operates two daily flights between Guyana and New York and Miami. The additional flight is likely to be added to the Georgetown-Miami route since there continues to be increased travel to and from Miami, owing to the oil and gas sector in Guyana.
The additional service is set to begin in the first week of June and forms part of the airline’s Summer 2024 plans.
American Airlines started its Guyana service in 2018, but its travels have not been turbulence free.
In 2021, the Government of Guyana through the Tourism Ministry blasted the airline over its cancellation of several flights. The Government also complained about its many flight delays, pointing out that almost half of the airline’s flight over a six-month period faced delays.
In that same year, the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority wrote to the American Alines’ management over the quality of its service. The GCAA was later provided with assurances from the airline that it was working to improve its service on the route.
Last year, the airline was forced to issue an apology to two Caribbean Prime Ministers, who were not accorded VIP treatment during their departure from Guyana.
