American Airlines is introducing several new benefits for its AAdvantage loyalty program members. Namely, there are more ways to utilize miles and Loyalty Points. There are also more ways to receive trip credits. These features are rolling out over the coming months during the program year starting on March 1, 2024.
More Loyalty Program Reward Choices
It’s possible to receive bonus Loyalty Points as a reward option at three different redemption levels:
- 15,000 level: 1,000 Loyalty Points
- 175,000 level: 5,000 Loyalty Points
- 250,000 level: 15,000 Loyalty Points per rewards choice (two available)
To date, Loyalty Points have yet to be a redemption option since this feature launched in 2022. Choosing these rewards can help you reach a higher elite status tier sooner.
New Ways To Earn And Redeem Miles For Upgrades
Loyalty members will soon be able to earn miles when paying cash on upgrades to premium cabins. Additionally, redeeming miles for upgrades with select airline partners starting in 2024 is possible.
Passengers can start requesting systemwide upgrades online, too. AAdvantage Platinum Pro members can redeem miles for premium Flagship First Dining passes.
Basic Economy Cancellation
Starting later in January 2024, passengers can cancel non-refundable Basic Economy fares on aa.com and receive a partial trip credit for a $99 fee. Currently, only domestic trips that haven’t started yet and are booked directly through American qualify.
Same-day Standby
AAdvantage members and other eligible passengers can request same-day standby for earlier flights for travel on or after March 1, 2024. Simply submit a request starting 24 hours before flight departure on aa.com or in the app.
Additional AAdvantage Program Benefits
The airline loyalty program will also introduce these benefits as 2024 progresses:
- 24-hour trip holds: Only members can put flights on hold free of charge for up to 24 hours.
- Admirals Club visits: AAdvantage members can purchase one-day passes.
- Flagship Lounge visit passes: Purchase single-visit passes to premium lounge spots.
- Extended Trip Credit: AAdvantage members have six more months to use trip credits than non-members when canceling online.
In addition to these program changes, AAdvantage members will continue enjoying benefits such as Group 6 boarding and exclusive access to vacation packages.
Summary
Many of these changes positively impact AAdvantage members to utilize their loyalty perks. Receiving trip credits on domestic basic economy trips and purchasing single-day lounge passes is also helpful when travel plans change.
