A collision occurred between the wingtip of an empty Virgin Atlantic jet and a stationary British Airways airliner during towing operations at London’s Heathrow Airport on Saturday, confirmed both airlines.
Heathrow Airport, the busiest in Britain, assured that there were no reported passenger injuries and anticipated no ongoing disruptions to airport operations.
British Airways issued a statement indicating that their aircraft was undergoing assessment by engineering teams, and arrangements were made to provide an alternative aircraft to minimize inconvenience to passengers.
According to Virgin Atlantic, the incident occurred at Terminal 3 while their empty Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which had just completed a flight, was being towed to another area of the airfield.
A spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic stated, “We’ve initiated a comprehensive investigation, and our engineering teams are conducting maintenance checks on the aircraft, which has been temporarily taken out of service.”
Both airlines confirmed that there would be no disruptions to their flight schedules for Saturday.
Heathrow Airport announced its collaboration with emergency services and the two airlines involved in managing the aftermath of the incident.
