The two routes join the resumption of JFK to San Antonio by Delta.
The CRJ-900 will be used to Kansas City.
Quick Links
Delta has added New York JFK to Kansas City and Milwaukee, joining San Antonio, a bog-standard resumption. For the first time, Kansas City and Milwaukee to JFK will have 2x daily flights with two airlines, while San Antonio will return to 2x daily, which it last had in 2019.
Some may say that Delta is simply adding Kansas City and Milwaukee to feed its international network at JFK, although timings aren’t necessarily great for that versus other hubs. Nonetheless, the timing is suspect, as it comes days after JetBlue inaugurated both routes.
There’s inevitably a competitive dimension to Delta’s decision, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not just from the announcement’s timing – although it is more surprising after JetBlue took off – but also because Delta already serves Kansas City and Milwaukee from New York LaGuardia. This airport is especially good for New York City’s point-to-point demand.
What’s happening?
The details of the routes are shown below, with all times local. Most arrive too early at JFK to connect to many onward places within a competitive timeframe, especially long-haul, although it’s often much better from JFK. However, various thin markets in the Northeast connect on a two-way basis, although most are easily reachable over Detroit or Atlanta.
