A young woman sat on board a FlyDubai flight where she posted one last selfie hours before the plane came crashing down in southern Russia, killing all on board.
Anna Sergeeva was a make-up artist in Dubai and told colleagues she booked a last-minute flight to Rostov-on-Don for a week to see her family, Dubai-based Gulf News reports.
The 25-year-old Russian woman got comfortable in her Boeing 737-80 plane seat, tilted her head and smiled for a photo and posted it to social media, unaware of what was ahead.
Upon attempting to land, horrendous winds threw Flight FZ981 off course causing the jet to be pushed from left to right.
After two hours, the plane eventually crashed and was destroyed on impact in a fiery explosion near Rostov airport at 3:50am on Saturday.
The impact killed all 62 on board; four of those were children and seven were crew members.
“Anna lived in Dubai for the last six months working to support her mother and 11-year-old brother, who live in Kharkiv,” her friend Karina told media.
The photos come after LifeNews released a 3D reconstruction video of the passenger plane being thrown around in high winds before it came crashing down.
In the clip, the Russian jet can be seen in a mid-air holding pattern for more before striking the runway and exploding.
According to the independent US-based Flight Safety Foundation, there was strong winds at the airport with a speed of 43km/h, with gusts up to 69km, but visibility was reasonable.
“Different versions of what happened are being looked into, including crew error, a technical failure and bad weather conditions,” the committee said.
The passenger jet came down inside the airport’s perimeter, about 250 metres short of the start of the runway.
Both the pilot and co-pilot had over 5000 hours of flight experience each.
The pilot was Cypriot, the co-pilot Spanish.
The FlyDubai airline had a clean safety record before the accident. It started flying in June 2009, with a fleet of new Boeing 737s, one of the world’s most widely flown planes.
