Interglobe Aviation, the operator of India’s largest airline IndiGo, is being hampered by a shortage of aircraft, according to CEO Pieter Elbers. Despite rising demand for air travel in India and globally, the airline is under pressure due to the global shortage of new planes. IndiGo has an orderbook of 500 aircraft, which should provide the airline with a steady flow of deliveries until the end of the decade, but it is also exploring the possibility of ordering more than 500 passenger jets from Boeing. The delivery trajectory of Airbus’ newest and largest narrowboy airliner, the A321 XLR, is “all work in progress” according to Elbers.
