Indian budget airline Go First has filed for bankruptcy protection, citing engine issues for the grounding of many of its planes and a resulting severe cash flow problem. The company has blamed US engine maker Pratt & Whitney for failing to supply enough spare engines, and says it has not missed any debt repayment deadlines. Go First is the first major Indian airline to have collapsed in four years, following in the footsteps of Jet Airways in 2019. It is still unclear whether the airline will be revived or sold. While existing airlines may benefit from the collapse, industry figures warn of further supply chain issues as IndiGo, the biggest airline in the country, has also suffered from the Pratt & Whitney engine issue. Domestic airlines carried 37.5 million passengers in the first quarter of this year, up 51.7% on the previous year.
