In a significant move aimed at providing relief to passengers, IndiGo on Thursday (January 4) announced that it has ceased collecting the fuel charge on tickets, a decision made nearly three months after its introduction in response to soaring jet fuel prices.
The fuel charge, implemented by the airline in early October 2023, has now been removed with immediate effect. IndiGo attributes this decision to the recent reduction in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices, offering passengers respite from the additional levy.

“As ATF prices are dynamic, we will continue to adjust our fares and components thereof, to respond to any change in prices or market conditions,” IndiGo said in a statement.
India’s largest airline in the statement said that despite the uncertainties presented by fluctuating fuel prices, IndiGo remains resolute in its dedication to offering cost-effective, timely, courteous, and seamless travel experiences for its passengers.
Airlines and fuel costs
Fuel costs constitute a significant portion of an airline’s operational expenses, and the introduction of the fuel charge was a response to the surge in ATF prices observed in October 2023.
The charge applied to both domestic and international routes, impacting passengers across the airline’s network. The move reflects IndiGo’s commitment to providing competitive and transparent pricing to its passengers.
