IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is starting to feel the negative effects of supply chain disruptions from Airbus, which has prevented the airline from growing as fast as it would like in certain markets. IndiGo has seen a swift increase in domestic and international demand, with double the capacity over the last year, and according to Boeing, India’s carriers require 2,210 new planes in the next 20 years. IndiGo has an order book for 500 aircraft, which includes Airbus’ newest and biggest narrow-body airliner, A321 XLR. CEO Pieter Elbers has said that IndiGo is in talks to place an order for over 500 more jets, some of which could be widebody planes, although he has not commented directly on any new deals. Airbus has reaffirmed plans to deliver the A321XLR to its unknown first operator in Q2 2024, but the aircraft has been delayed slightly due to safety conditions imposed for a new type of fuel tank.
