A man, who travelled on an IndiGo flight recently, took to X to share how the low-cost airline has stopped selling tea or coffee separately and one needs to buy a snack costing at least Rs 200 to get a complimentary beverage.
D Prasanth Nair shared a photo of the in-flight menu that said “All our ready-to-eat meals come with a beverage of your choice”. According to their latest menu, one can buy any snack from salted cashew nuts, smoked almonds, chocolate chip cookies, sugar-free multigrain cookies or moonfils and get a complimentary beverage of their choice.
One can also buy a ready-to-eat meal costing Rs 400 such as poha, veg noodles, rava upma, dal chawal or chicken noodles to avail a complimentary beverage from juice, soft drinks, masala tea, cappuccino etc.
“Recently took an IndiGo flight. Surprised to find that they don’t sell tea/ coffee separately. Given that many pax would be wanting to just have a tea/coffee, one would need to buy a snack + beverage for 200/, effectively meaning a tea/ coffee will cost 200/ Definitely not an example of customer centricity,” Nair wrote on X.
IndiGo replied to the post and said they have “revamped their services to provide an efficient, sustainable and affordable snack experience”.
“This initiative aligns with our commitment to Go Green. Our customers may now enjoy a complimentary beverage with any snack purchased on board making it better value for their money. Our buy-on-board service is entirely optional for customers to exercise their choice,” it said.
“With them it isn’t about what you want, but what gives the highest profitability. So you either pre-order or accept whatever the optimised supply chain spits at you – and pay. Even with a pre-order, I’ve had “oops, don’t have that, take this” experiences!” a user commented. “Best option is to buy your coffee/tea and snacks after security and carry. In any case an average domestic flight is less than 2 hr duration,” said another.
