The ongoing violence and ethnic clashes in Manipur have led to a surge in air ticket prices on the Imphal-Kolkata route, with fares skyrocketing up to ₹20,000 per ticket. According to Debjit Dutta, chairman of the Indian Association of Tour Operators, West Bengal Chapter, the situation in Manipur remains tense, prompting people to rush out of Imphal to Kolkata and other places. As a result, Air India is operating daily flights from Imphal to Kolkata, while IndiGo is operating four flights including connected and direct flights, all of which are packed to capacity. However, AirAsia offers some relief, with one flight scheduled for May 15 whose fare is ₹4,000. Meanwhile, AirAsia, Flybig, and Alliance Air have scheduled relief flights as part of a central government initiative to evacuate stranded people from the troubled areas of Manipur. The violence erupted on May 3 after a rally by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur, sparking clashes between Hindu Meiteis and Christian tribal Kukis, leading to the deployment of paramilitary forces by the Central government.
