kenya airways kisumu: Flight operations have resumed at Kisumu International Airport.
K.Q. confirmed in a statement on Friday that flights to and from Kisumu are operating back as scheduled.
The Kenya Aviation Authority (KAA) and Kenya Civil Aviation (KCAA) conducted safety operations and declared the runway safe for use.
“Our engineers are currently on the ground in Kisumu and working with airport authorities to recover the aircraft,” KQ said in a statement.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by this incident and thank our valued customers for their patience and continued patronage,” the company said.
The national carrier said the safety and well-being of passengers and crew is its top priority.
The runway was cleared after a Kenya Airways plane was involved in a bird hit.
According to Kenya Airways, while all passengers were evacuated safely, the aircraft could not fully exit the runway due to the bird strike.
The KQ said the incident took place around 6.36 am on Thursday.
A statement sent Thursday evening by the Office of Corporate Communications said the incident resulted in the plane being temporarily stuck on the runway.
“The aircraft landed safely at Kisumu, however, it was not able to fully exit the runway as the bird strike affected the aircraft’s operating components,” the statement said.
KQ further said that the passengers of the affected flights will be provided with updated travel information and assistance as needed.
